Optimising

Optimising explains why various websites take different amounts of time to load. Images that are displayed on the internet need to be equally balanced with file size and image quality to ensure the web page loads as quickly as possible. The bigger file size and larger the resolution of each image, the longer it will take for the page to process meaning the web page will load slower than if the images were of smaller file size.

Images are usually altered to make the file size smaller while still keeping the highest possible quality. For example cropping or decreasing resolution on unnecessary parts of the image. JPEGs and GIFs are the most popular file formats for images shown on the internet however JPEGs are usually photographs whereas GIFs are often line drawings.
